Halloween Costume Parade
As an IB World School, YIS always takes part in international celebrations. This is to show our open-mindedness as one of the IB learner profiles, that we understand and appreciate culture from all around the world and show that we are open to the perspectives, values and traditions of other individuals and communities. We held a Halloween Costume Parade for the PYP, MYP and DP students yesterday at the YIS Campus. The students were very enthusiastic in dressing up for Halloween! Their creativity was highly appreciated.
But anyway, did you know that Halloween most likely originated from a Celtic festival native to Ireland and Scotland? The festival was called Samhain, pronounced in Irish like "Sow-ihn". Historians believed that in the 9th century, the Celtic festival became associated with the Christian holiday All Saints' Day. Around this time, the title Samhain was changed to All-Hallows Eve. Then eventually Hallowe’en! (https://www.twinkl.co.id/teaching-wiki/history-of-halloween-for-children)
