Our Primary Years students enthusiastically participated in a variety of events, including a field trip to Grhatama Pustaka Library, Reading Challenge, Guest Readers, Book Donations, Book Fair, and Book Character Dress-Up Day.

Personal Project is mandatory for the students of MYP Year 5. It encourages students to practice and strengthen their ATL skills, and develop an area of personal interest. It provides an excellent opportunity for students to produce a truly personal and often creative product/outcome and to demonstrate a consolidation of their learning in the MYP.

Personal projects are not only student-centered but also age-appropriate. They enable students to engage in practical explorations through a cycle of inquiry, action and reflection. MYP projects also help students to develop the attributes of the IB learner profile and foster the development of independent, lifelong learners.

Last Tuesday, our PYP students celebrated Valentine's Day at school. Students exchanged gifts and chocolates with their classmates. They also create Valentine's Day-themed cup doodles to express their creativity.

Lunar New Year is celebrated by nearly 2 billion people around the world. One of our goals as an International Baccalaureate World School is to instill in our children a sense of international-mindedness. This approach is critical in educating our students to be global players.

To that end, YIS students, parents, and teachers celebrated the Lunar New Year today with singing, poetry reading and also wushu performances. A lion dance group was also invited to perform for students and parents. We hope that the Year of Wood Dragon brings us prosperity and joy.

Our Grade 8 students are aware of the waste problems in Yogyakarta. They talked about it and decided to do a "Service as Action" project on Malioboro Street to help the Malioboro workers clear up trash and encourage people to stop littering. Other than that, the students also shared some food with the cleaning service workers to express their gratitude and appreciation.
