Who likes science experiments?

We do! And today, we had Science Fair to celebrate World Science Day. The purpose of this amazing event is to highlight the important role that science and scientists have in our society.

The theme of this year's science fair is “The Science of Light and Colour”. Students demonstrated how colours can change if mixed with a certain chemical, how colours can glow in the dark, how to make paintings with pendulum techniques, etc. Parents were invited to this event, and it was interesting to see the interaction between parents and students.

Thank you to all YIS teachers, the Science Fair Committee, all students and parents for making this event successful.

Have you ever heard a story about dragons in Polish?

This morning, our Early Years and Grade 1-2 students invited Franio and Joseph's dad, Bapak Bartosz Jerzy Nowak, to tell some stories about dragons and to teach some words in Polish. He also gave a brief explanation about the origin of the Polish language. At the end of the class, Franio and Joseph sang a Polish song for their friends. It was fun!

This Term, Grade 3 and 4 students learn about innovations. We invited some parents as guest speakers to share more about it.

Ibu Maria Arifani, Jerzy's mom, presented the Evolutions of Medical Equipment, while Jian's mom, Ibu Heejin Jung, shared about Language in Technology. Soo Min's dad, Bapak Cho Sung Jin, led a workshop on Architecture and Housing Innovations.

The practical knowledge and skills have been beneficial for students while working on their individual projects creating "Innovative Products" which help solve the problem around us.

As a school that promotes international mindedness to the students, in a country that recognizes the diversity of and acknowledges individuals' right to develop the religious aspect, YIS held an event for the respective religion entitled "International Insight with Spiritual Balance" or "Berwawasan Internasional dengan Keseimbangan Spiritual”. This event aims to strengthen the students' beliefs and enhance their spiritual attitudes.

Muslim students celebrated "Jumah ukhuwah", which means to have Friday as a special day to promote solidarity and share positive vibes. Buddhist students were introduced to the celebration of Kathina Day, a devotional day to Bhikkhu Sangha. Hindu students created necklaces for the gods and goddesses statues from flowers and read "sloka bhagawadgita". Christian and Catholic students enrolled in "ecumenical worship", which aims to share and celebrate humanity's diversity and unity.

On 12 November 2022, YIS Board held a team-building workshop with the principal, teachers, and front office staff. Ibu Yeni Triwahyuningsih, Director of Rumah Psikologi Pelangi Indonesia, became the guest speaker of the workshop. She explained interesting facts about people's characteristics and how to identify them.

This workshop also taught us how to accept, appreciate and celebrate differences. By the time the workshop ended, we feel energized and ready for our next journey to provide the best education for our students!

This morning, YIS Early Years students and PYP Grade 1-6 students joined a Planting Day Activity. This activity is to support the global idea of going back to nature and to encourage students to plant a variety of tropical plants either at home or school.

The Planting Day Activity was held at YIS massive botanical garden and mini-farm which are usually used by students to study science and nature. Planting and cultivating stimulate children's senses. Water, soil, plant leaves, and seeds all have different textures that kids can discover through gardening. Moreover, vision is also involved in taking care of plants and flowers, since children are surrounded by different colors, tones, and shades.
